COMING SOON IN 2023!
Screaming has not worked.
Can dialogue help solve America’s polarization problem? Many of us believe YES! While we may not solve the country’s problems with such efforts…
…the hope is we will keep talking and others will want to join the conversation. The benefits?
It doesn’t just create a better society ready for progress, it makes us better friends, relatives, co-workers and neighbors.
Watching the headlines and hate of today, so many of us realize that doing nothing is not an option.
What’s at stake if we do nothing?
The longevity, stability, and progress of our families, our organizations, and our communities seem to be hanging in the balance.
Where to begin?
The benefits of this work don’t just create a better society ready for progress- it makes us better friends, relatives, co-workers and neighbors!
THESE CONVERSATIONS ARE FOR YOU IF...
You often leave a meeting frustrated, confused, or feeling like you haven’t been heard? You have fear around what you need to say, and maybe have wanted to say, for many years?
You feel most people are talking at cross-purposes and no one is truly listening to each other?
You've discovered that our present way of talking is blocking a better future for us all?
HOW DIFFERENT ARE WE?
When we look past the media-exacerbated vitriol and remove the armor we wear on social media, many of us surprisingly find common ground.
We feel everyone has a right to clean air and water.
We support the right to quality education.
We even agree on::climate change, immigration, birth control, gun control, gay marriage, foreign trade
...and other seemingly more divisive issues.
I am not suggesting we all start playing a didgeridoo rendition of Kumbaya in front of the local organic café. We shouldn’t be naïve. But the increasing radicalization of mainstream society is, to a significant degree, a product of our inability to honestly speak with each other despite significant areas of ideological agreement.
So, especially now when having a conversation can be challenging, join Michele once a month to gain communication skills, insights, improve your relationships and actually practice meaningful conversations.
Join me January 10th & 24th: https://healing-conversations-jan10.eventbrite.com
We've been doing this for years, And through all this talking, we've discovered something truly remarkable — if we know each other, it's pretty hard to hate each other.
...a practice convo, small groups...a sense of safety
...at this moment in our world.
...in our field
...and acknowledged through the process
• Transform division and contempt into connection and understanding
• Experience how to shift from cultural and political polarization to bridging divides and building relationships.
• Discover the benefits you receive from listening to others with differing beliefs.
• Uncover your fears, about how you will feel or what you will say or do when listening to people whose opinions or experiences differ from your own.
• Open the conversation instead of shutting it down using our "7 Ways to Connect".
• Be inspired to understand people who don't look or think like us..
my brain and
heart divorced
a decade ago
over who was
to blame about
how big of a mess
I have become
eventually,
they couldn't be
in the same room
with each other
now my head and heart
share custody of me
I stay with my brain
during the week
and my heart
gets me on weekends
they never speak to one another
- instead, they give me
the same note to pass
to each other every week
and their notes they
send to one another always
says the same thing:
"This is all your fault"
on Sundays
my heart complains
about how my
head has let me down
in the past
and on Wednesday
my head lists all
of the times my
heart has screwed
things up for me
in the future
they blame each
other for the
state of my life
there's been a lot
of yelling - and crying
so,
lately, I've been
spending a lot of
time with my gut
who serves as my
unofficial therapist
most nights, I sneak out of the
window in my ribcage
and slide down my spine
and collapse on my
gut's plush leather chair
that's always open for me
~ and I just sit sit sit sit
until the sun comes up
last evening,
my gut asked me
if I was having a hard
time being caught
between my heart
and my head
I nodded
I said I didn't know
if I could live with
either of them anymore
"my heart is always sad about
something that happened yesterday
while my head is always worried
about something that may happen tomorrow,"
I lamented
my gut squeezed my hand
"I just can't live with
my mistakes of the past
or my anxiety about the future,"
I sighed
my gut smiled and said:
"in that case,
you should
go stay with your
lungs for a while,"
I was confused
- the look on my face gave it away
"if you are exhausted about
your heart's obsession with
the fixed past and your mind's focus
on the uncertain future
your lungs are the perfect place for you
there is no yesterday in your lungs
there is no tomorrow
there either
there is only now
there is only inhale
there is only exhale
there is only this moment
there is only breath
and in that breath
you can rest while your
heart and head work
their relationship out."
this morning,
while my brain
was busy reading
tea leaves
and while my
heart was staring
at old photographs
I packed a little
bag and walked
to the door of
my lungs
before I could even knock
she opened the door
with a smile and as
a gust of air embraced me
she said
"what took you so long?"
